Governor kicks off ANDVSA and CDVSA ad campaign
Peggy Brown, ANDVSA Executive Director, kicked off the public information advertising campaign produced by the Network and the Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault called “Real Alaska Men Choose Respect,” along with Gov. Sean Parnell at a press conference in Anchorage on Dec. 3.

Bethel Domestic Violence Shelter gets new $9 million building
More women than ever are seeking help at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta’s main shelter for victims of domestic violence.
“It’s been a huge escalation,” says Bethel-based Tundra Women’s Calition director, Michele DeWitt. Her organization has moved from providing 1,500-2,000 nights of shelter for abused women and their children per year in the early part of the decade to upwards of 6,000 at the close.
The coalition is celebrating the opening of a brand new $9 million shelter that the director says better suits the needs of the people who use it – some of the most vulnerable domestic violence victims in the country…. Click here to read more of this KTVA news coverage.
ANDVSA’s Legal Advocacy and Training Project in the News
ANDVSA’s Legal Advocacy and Training Projects, the Alaska State Troopers, and the Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, with support from the Department of Justice Office of Violence Against Women, the Center for Human Development-University of Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Police Standards Council, Alaska Native Women’s Coalition, Department of Law- Fairbanks, and the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living, hosted a successful training conference in Fairbanks Nov. 16-18.
