  • Pro Bono Program

    What is the ANDVSA Pro Bono Program?

    The Pro Bono Program is sponsored by the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault and is funded through a Federal Legal Assistance for Victims grant.

    The Purpose of the Program

    The purpose of the Pro Bono Program is to increase private attorney representation for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in civil cases at no cost to the victim. Referrals to the Pro Bono Program should be made through the advocate at your local domestic violence and sexual assault program.

    Who We Can Help

    It is our goal to try to help all victims who seek our assistance. However, given the limited number of pro bono attorneys in our program, whether or not we can help you depends upon:

    (1) the type of legal issue for which you are seeking assistance;
    (2) whether children are involved;
    (3) the complexity of the legal issues;
    (4) the level of violence of the situation; and
    (5)your financial circumstances.

    Types of Cases

    Custody, safe visitation, divorce and child support cases are the primary types of cases for which we try to find attorneys. We also seek to find legal assistance for victims who need help with other types of cases, such as landlord/tenant, public assistance or probate issues.

    Financial Eligibility Requirements

    The ANDVSA Pro Bono Program does not have strict financial eligibility guidelines for accepting cases. We will give priority to those applicants who appear less able to afford a private attorney after considering their income, resources and expenses.

  • Legal Advocacy Project “Mini” Conference

    The ANDVSA Legal Advocacy Project is hosting a two-day "mini" conference that will give new and experienced legal advocates the chance to brush up on their legal advocacy skills. This hands-on training, conducted by LAP Director Kari Robinson and Pro Bono Supervising Attorney Christine Pate, will cover topics such as family law, confidentiality, referrals to the Pro Bono Program, work with immigrant victims, the Language Interpreter Center at AIJP and Alaska's new protective order forms. Contact LAP Director Kari Robinson at 586-2810 or email krobinson@andvsa.org for more information on this important conference, which is supported in part by a grant award from the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice.

    The purpose of the Legal Advocacy Project (LAP) is to increase the ability of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault to access and participate in the civil and criminal justice system. Click on the donate button below if you would like to make a contribution to this important project.
