The Alaska Network on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault is a non-profit, statewide membership organization which was incorporated in 1980. ANDVSA is committed to the elimination of interpersonal violence and societal oppression of under served populations in Alaska. The Public Policy Program is an integral part of this effort by working to affect public policy for the benefit of victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
How It Works
To achieve these goals, the public policy program works in conjunction with the other Network programs: training, prevention, and legal advocacy; our 18 member programs; state agencies; local, state, and federal policy makers; and other key collaborators to ensure that laws and policies are supportive of and enhance the safety of victims, survivors and their families.
The Policy Program provides a voice at the Alaska Legislature responding to legislation and educating legislators on the intended and unintended consequences of proposed legislation. The Policy Program researches and analyzes possible legislation, examines practices and policies being used throughout Alaska and how these issues have been addressed in other states.
