Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

Pro Bono Program

What is the ANDVSA Pro Bono Program?

The Pro Bono Program is sponsored by the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA) and is funded through a Federal Legal Assistance for Victims grant.

The purpose of the Pro Bono Program is to increase private attorney representation for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in civil cases at no cost to the victim. All referrals to the Pro Bono Program must be made through the legal advocate at your local domestic violence and sexual assault program.

It is our goal to try to help all victims who seek our assistance. However, given the limited number of pro bono attorneys in our program, whether or not we can help you depends upon:

(1) the type of legal issue for which you are seeking assistance
(2) your financial circumstances

For what kind of cases does the Pro Bono Program try to find attorneys?

Custody and divorce cases are the primary types of cases for which we try to find attorneys. We anticipate, unfortunately, that we will be able to find attorneys for all the cases that are referred to us. Therefore, we will consider the circumstances of each case; such as whether children are involved, the complexity of the legal issues and the lethality of the situation in deciding which cases to accept for the possible pro bono appointment.

We also seek to find legal assistance for victims who need help with other types of cases, such as landlord/tenant, public assistance or probate issues.

Are there Financial Eligability Requirements?

The ANDVSA Pro Bono Program does not have strict financial eligibility guidelines for accepting cases. We will give priority to those applicants who appear less able to afford a private attorney after considering their income, resources and expenses.
