Job Title: On-Call Direct Services Advocate

 

STAR, a non-profit agency is hiring for an On-Call Direct Services Advocate to provide emergency victim advocacy. 5pm Fri-7am Mon.

Position Summary: Provide on-call emergency crisis intervention, advocacy, support and medical accompaniment to victims of sexual assault and child sexual abuse. Reports to: Program Director

Qualifications:

Associates degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services or related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience in crisis intervention techniques or equivalent preferred.

Knowledge of sexual violence issues and advocacy skills. Must posses excellent written and oral communication skills.

Must have the ability to work shifts between 5pm Friday - 7am Monday and be able to provide a 45-minute on-call response time. Must have a valid Alaska driver’s license and insured vehicle.

Maintains contacts of a confidential nature throughout the agency and outside the agency. May be required to use independent judgment in interpreting agency rules and policies.

Job Responsibilities & Duties:

Debrief cases with Direct Services Manager or assigned Advocate to ensure appropriate referrals are made and case follow-up is completed.

Maintain accurate and appropriate client records, including statistical information and summary of contacts and provide information and referrals as appropriate.

Assist in carrying out the goals and objectives of STAR and assist in maintaining liaison relationships with the Anchorage support community.

Attend consultations as needed.

Represent STAR in a professional and courteous manner.

Stay current on issues relating to sexual assault and issues affecting sexual assault victims.

Other related duties as assigned.

Hours: On-call 5pm Friday – 7am Monday. Flexible and rotating, including Holidays.

Rate of Pay: $2.00/hr from Friday at 5pm until Monday at 7am and $17.00 for actual callout Non-Exempt

The position is funded through a Department of Justice Violence Against Women Act grant. The staff attorney will provide legal representation to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in various civil proceedings in the Bering Straits area. The attorney will work under the supervision of ALSC ’s Kotzebue Supervising Attorney, and will work closely with the staff of the local shelter, with VAWA attorneys in other ALSC offices, and with the staff of the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault's Legal Advocacy Project.
