Policy Program
ANDVSA’s Policy Program
The Alaska Network on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault is a non-profit, statewide membership organization committed to the elimination of interpersonal violence and societal oppression through social change. The Public Policy Program is an integral part of this effort by working to affect federal, state, regional and local policy for the benefit of victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and teen dating violence.
How It Works
To achieve these goals, the Policy Program works in conjunction with the other Network programs: training, prevention, and legal advocacy; our 17 member programs; state agencies; local, state, and federal policy makers; and other key partners to ensure that laws and policies are supportive of and enhance the safety of victims, survivors and their families. The Policy Program also provides technical support to our 17 member programs and provides resources to our other partners.
Public Policy – Giving a Voice to Victims and Survivors
The Policy Program also provides a voice at the Alaska State Legislature responding to legislation and educating legislators on the intended and unintended consequences of proposed legislation on victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence, teen dating violence and stalking. The Policy Program researches and analyzes possible legislation, examines practices and policies being used throughout Alaska and how these issues have been addressed in other states. In addition to legislation, agency regulations are continuously monitored and reviewed for their impact on our programs and the people that they serve.
