Giving Survivors a Voice at the State Legislature

Improving the law is one important tool for addressing the needs of victims and survivors. ANDVSA provides a voice at the Alaska State Legislature to inform legislators on the intended and unintended consequences for victims and survivors of proposed legislation. We research and analyze possible legislation, examine practices and policies being used throughout Alaska and how these issues have been addressed in other states. In addition to legislation, we monitor and review agency regulations for their impact on our member programs and the people that they serve.

State Budget Priorities

ANDVSA works with our members to ensure that Alaska has a strong network of services that provide critical resources to meet the needs of sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and their families. Along with ANDVSA member programs, we educate and inform the Alaska State Legislature and Governor’s Office about financial resources that are needed so that programs can adequately provide shelter, advocacy, and other crucial support services to the victims and survivors they serve.

Federal Policy

ANDVSA works with our Congressional delegation on legislative proposals to improve protections for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking and to secure funding resources.

Each election year, ANDVSA provides candidates the opportunity to share their stances on the issues domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as their visions for Alaska’s future.
